Art with Kids

Summer is right around the corner and it is time to start thinking about what to do with the kids!

It is a hard time and it is important to find productive things to do with them other than using electronic devices all of the time. I have found that art projects at home are a great way to use their minds in a fun creative way. Here are two resources that I have found very helpful in this endeavour.

  1. Deep Space Sparkle: This website is an amazing resource! It is filled with wonderful projects for kids that are easy to do and can be done at home. This program was developed by a former art teacher who was trying to streamline lessons for art teachers. She has lessons for homeschoolers as well. Many lessons include childrens literature and projects based on masters from art history. She also includes many demonstration videos with her lessons which are helpful if you are not experienced in art. If you want to know more, here is the link: DSS | Deep Space Sparkle

  2. The Dollar Store: This one might surprise you, but there are many great materials there. This is one resoucre that I use frequently when I am looking for projects. They have many craft supplies that can be turned into art projects. One example that is fun for the summer is fairy gardens. There are so many treasures like small figurines that can be used for this. Other materials like colored sand are great for making fairy pools and glass pebbles make great walkways. Just go there looking for things and you will be insired! And your kids will be busy all afternoon making a small magical piece of art. Here is an example that my daughter made from dollar store finds.

In addition to doing projects with my own kids, I also teach summer art classes for kids in my home. If you want to know more, fill out this form and I will send you the information:CONTACT | Nancy Andruk Olson
